Our HND in Directing is an intensive, hands-on programme designed to transform you into a confident, visionary director. Under the mentorship of active industry directors, you’ll learn to command every stage of production—from script analysis to final cut—while developing a unique artistic voice.
This course blends technical precision with creative risk-taking, preparing you to lead teams, solve on-set challenges, and deliver compelling stories for film, television, and digital media.
Script to Screen Leadership
• Break down scripts, design shot lists, and plan blocking for maximum impact.
• Master the language of visual storytelling (framing, pacing, tone).
Actor Collaboration
• Techniques for casting, rehearsals, and on-set performance direction.
• Workshops with professional actors to hone your communication skills.
Technical Command
• Hands-on training in cinematography, editing, and sound to align crews with your vision.
• Work with Arri Alexa, Blackmagic, and DSLR cameras.
Real-World Projects
• Direct three short films (fiction/docudrama) with dedicated crews.
• Pitch projects to industry panels for feedback.
To apply for the HND Directing Programming, you'll need:
Academic Qualificatons
• Minimum: 1 A-Level (Grade C or above) or Level 3 Diploma in Film/Media/Performing Arts.
• Alternative: Relevant experience (e.g., theatre direction, indie films) + interview.
Portfolio
Submit one of the following:
• A 3-minute directed film (any genre; phone footage accepted).
• A script you’ve written or directed (max. 10 pages).
• A storyboard/shot list for a scene.
Interview
Submit one of the following:
• Discuss a film/director that inspires you.
• Demonstrate passion for collaborative storytelling.
English Language
• IELTS 5.5 (or equivalent) if non-native English speaker
